Some history: Acapulco was founded by the Nahua Indians around 3000 B.C., already before the Aztecs came here and was conquered by the Spaniard Hernan Cortes when the Aztec Empire fell in 1521. The city retained its importance as a world trading port for the next 400 years and during that time became a place for pirates including Sir Francis Drake. After 1920 Acapulco was transformed into a vacation destination after the visit of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII). It became an exclusive place afterwards and the jet-set is still here or at least have their houses here.
