One
of the best things going for Mazatlán is its combination
of affordable comfort and laid-back seaside charm. Its long wide
sandy beaches with rolling surf are lined with fun, open-air bistros
and bars.
Mazatlán
is situated on the Pacific Coast, almost directly across from
the tip of the Baja peninsula. Maán has its own airport,
as well as ferry service to La Paz. The City is concentrated in
two areas: In the north, there is the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone)
where the majority of hotels and restaurants are located. In the
south there is El Centro (downtown) where the heart of the city
is. These two centers are linked by Avenue Del Mar, also known
as the Malecón, which is a scenic beachfront avenue that
bridges the gap between the two areas. |

About
4 miles north of downtown lies the Sábalo traffic circle
in the Zona Dorada (Gold Zone) near the Punta Camarón,
a rocky outcropping over the water. The Zona Dorada begins where
Avenida del Mar intersects avenida Rafael Buelna and becomes avenida
Camarón Sábalo, which leads north through the abundant
hotels and fast-food restaurants of the tourist zone. From here,
the resort hotels, including the huge El Cid Resort complex, spread
northward along and beyond Plaábalo. The new Marina

the Zona Dorada considerably, as hotels, condo complexes, and
private residences rise around the new marina. North of here is

Mazatlán
has one of the longest stretches of uninterrupted beach in Mexico.
At low tide you can walk out more than 50 meters. Water temperature
tends to stay in the 65-75 degrees (Fahrenheit) range year round.
Maán offers various types of beaches for all tastes.
Surfers or lovers of high waves will be more than satisfied at
Olas Altas, Playa Los Pinos by Valentino's or Playa Bruja, north
of Cerritos. Punta Camarón and Playa Sábalo are
on each side of Valentinos in the Golden Zone and attract local
surfers. If you want to relax while listening to the peaceful
sound of the waves, you should experience Playa Norte in Olas
Altas and Playa Los Cerritos, north of the Zona Dorada. If you
want to enjoy the beach in a party atmosphere you ought to try
the Playa Las Gaviotas and Playa Sabalo that span the Zona Dorada.
