Guadalajara
is a cosmopolitan, refined, modern and dynamic city, yet still
provincial and traditional - filled with small spaces of piece
and quiet. Guadalajara is a showcase that synthesizes the
essence of Mexico. Its position ass the 2nd largest city in
the country dates back to the colonial era, a result of its
excellent land, natural resources and climate as well as its
strategic position as a port of entry to the very rich northwestern
region. The beauty of "The Pearl of the West" lies
in the countryside and its people. Guadalajara can be toured
in a two-day trip. A traditional place to start is the Historic
Center, with its 16th century cathedral whose 18th century
twin towers feature very distinctive tops.

Also
downtown are the Government Palace and the Hospicio Cabañas,
now a museum and office of the state's Culture Institute.
The famous painter José Clemente Orozco created some
of his best murals in its main building, specifically the
one titled "Prometheus in Flames" on the dome. The
most important artistic and cultural events in the west of
Mexico are presented in the Teatro Degollado, with its elegant
neoclassical architecture and its luxurious interior. The
cultural atmosphere extends to the Plaza de los Fundadores
- right behind the theater - where concerts and artistic activities
take place.

in the bustling Mercado Libertad, or for the more adventurous the

los Mariachis are obligatory stops in traditional Guadalajara.

of Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, tradition is alive and well. In
Tonalá, the mixture of earth, water, fire and wind keep the

allows you to witness first hand the skilful work of the locals.
A stroll through the cobblestone streets of Tlaquepaque transports
the visitor backing time by means of traditional and elegant mansions
dating back to the 18th century. Besides tradition, in Tlaquepaque
and Tonalá you will find hundreds of restaurants that offer
